sustainable packaging show

Sustainable packaging and labelling - the future beckons, but is it good enough?

Ever in search of optimal sustainability I am a regular attendee of the Packaging and Labelling Fairs, intent on discovering what is new and evolving.

It's a strangely uplifting experience as all suppliers are having to up their game in terms of sustainability. This year, instead of being a confined section of the Fair, it was ubiquitous.

pine forest trees

November 2021 - from the forest🌲🍊

I'm not alone in my love of forests and they really do seem to come into their own at this time of year. So for November's mix I have had a trip around the world to bring together a few of the best forest scents.

Sun + Gold = October 2021

After last month’s magic of three, working with lavender, lemon, and rose geranium, all super strong, well known ingredients battling it out to get prominence, we are going down a lesser known path.

The Magic of Three - September 2021

This month we are winding down and keeping things simple with the Magic of Three.

The perfume industry has at its disposal over 5000 ingredients, the vast majority being synthetically manufactured and many of which are patented to generate licensing income to the fragrance house that owns the patent – so a big commercial industry.

ldc pop up shop poster chelsea

LDC Relax and Restore pop up 19-26th August in Chelsea, featuring Perfino!

For a start up brand it is always a challenge to get your product physically out there without incurring the full on cost of bricks and mortar. Effecting the know, like, and trust principle is a tough one online, and there is no substitute for the touch, feel, and in the case of Perfino, smell of a product.

boats with palo santo trees

From the mixing studio - August 2021

For the August mix I wanted to focus on a blend which creates a sense of wellbeing.

frankincense tree

From the mixing studio - July 2021

This month we get a bit more sophisticated, with the inclusion of some less commonly used essential oils, namely Peru Balsam and Myrrh.

You may have heard of balsamic notes in perfumery.

Elderflower cordial - the taste, and smell, of summer

Our sense of smell is responsible for about 80% of what we taste, so it's not really that big a leap from essential oils to cordials, and it gives me the excuse to share with you my age old, and repeatedly tested, elderflower cordial recipe.

lemons growing on tree

From the mixing studio - June 2021

Our June blend makes me think of summer in its broadest sense – sun, rest, food, joy, and of course smells.

Much like cooking there are some “ingredients” which sit well together and some that jar. This month I wanted to bring Fennel into the mix ...

mini scent cards

Completely compostable mini scent cards are go!🌿

When the whole world is striving for sustainability and a circular economy why are we still using little plastic/metal/glass scent vials as testers? You can't pull them apart easily which makes them not recyclable, something many fragrance brands won't tell you or don't care to mention.

team celebrating togetherness in the outdoors

Nurture your staff with nature days

How deeply do companies really think through their staff benefits?

Happy people are more productive in the workplace so there is mutual benefit in being kind to your staff but is the result more driven towards keeping up with the status quo of benefits than really zoning in on what the individual devoting their time and energy to your business really wants and needs.
